District 55 Table Topics Champion

Jacob Leffler won the 2013 District 55 Table Topics Championship on November 8th, 2013, at the District Conference in San Antonio.  This was Jacob's time in the District Finals, previously finishing 3rd Place in 2010 and 2nd Place in 2012.

District 55 includes over 8000 Toastmasters in over 200 clubs from Killeen, TX in the North to Corpus Christi, TX in the South.



Member Earns 2nd Place in District...in Evaluation and International Speech Contests

Club member Jacob Leffler completed his run through the Spring 2013 contest season by winning 2nd Place in BOTH the Evaluation and the International Speech contest at the District 55 Conference, May 3-5, 2013.

Jacob was the reigning District 55 Evaluation Contest champion, but this year, 1st Place went to another Division champion from San Antonio.

In his first District International Speech Contest, Jacob also finished 2nd...just one spot away from going to the World Championship competition.

50th Anniversary Riverboat Party

As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration, Get Up and Go is hosting a riverboat dinner and party for all current and former members.  Get Up and Go has touched the lives of well over 1,000 members in the history of the club.

On May 23rd, 2013, we will be going out on the Lone Star Riverboat. We will start loading at 7:00 p.m and the boat will leave at 7:30 p.m.  This will be a 2 hour dinner cruise, with an open bar, snacks, King Ranch Chicken and sides.  The new Lone Star Riverboat has a capacity of 150, so please sign-up quickly to reserve your spot.

We will be able to see the Congress Avenue bats and the Austin Skyline.  Tickets are $32.50 each person if paid in advance below.  Tickets will be $42.50 at the dock, so pay ahead of time and save some money.  Please use the Paypal button below to order up to six tickets at a time (NOTE: you do NOT need a Paypal account to pay below...just any credit card including AMEX, Discover, Visa, or Mastercard).

Remember to board the boat at 7pm!  The boat will leave the dock promptly at 7:30pm, and there is no opportunity to arrive late.  Plus, we'll start serving cocktails at 7pm also!

Chad Wells - 2012 Division L Tall Tales Champion!

Get Up and Go has another Division Champion!....on October 27th, Mr. Chad Wells won first place in the Division L Tall Tales Competition!

Division L (in Toastmasters District 55) includes 25 Toastmasters clubs in the Austin area, and Chad has proven to be the best liar through this competition.  This is a tremendous accomplishment!

Chad competed at the District 55 finals at the Fall Conference November 10th, where he represented our club well in front of the more than 200 people in attendance.

District 55 consists of 185 Toastmasters clubs in Texas from Killeen to San Antonio to South Padre Island.  The District is one of the fastest growing in the world with ~8,000 members....and Chad is one of 8 Division Champions!

Club elections set for June 4th

It is time to elect officers for our next Toastmaster year!! The new officers will begin their tenure at the beginning of July, however training will be in June so we need to have our officers elected so that they can attend training.  Currently, the ballot looks like:

Congratulations to Jacob Leffler (center), winner of the 2012 District 55 Speech Evaluation Contest in Corpus Christi. District Officers Linda Williams and Bill 
Greenham presented the award.

Jacob took 1st place at the 2012 District Speech Evaluation Contests held at the conference in Corpus Christi on April 27. Quite a feat, as there are over 7000 Toastmasters in District 55!

Club speech contest

The club speech contest is set for Monday, February 13 during the regular club meeting. See Jacob if you would like to compete in either the Speech
Evaluation or International Speech contests. Winners will advance to the Area K53 contest in early March.

Congratulations to Jacob and Terri for their outstanding achievement at the Division speech contest. Jacob placed first in Table Topics and Terri second in the humorous speech contest. Jacob will advance to the District 55 contest on Friday November 18th.
